Replacing the Broken Vent Cover

Today started out like any other work day at Ocean Pond.  Our friends Chuck & Cathy were leaving today so we have to go over for goodbyes and hugs.

Chuck & Cathy for Wisconsin

Chuck & Cathy from Wisconsin.  Note the small purple tent behind their rig. The people moving into their site are already setting up!

They are off to Fort Pickens in the Florida Panhandle.  We had planned to go to this historic national park next week but had a hard time getting reservations.  We found out it is spring break and have decided to stay at Ocean Pond – guess we are getting old!

We went into Lake City for a parts run.  First was Wal-mart for water and marshmallows. Some old geezer was filling up about 28 one gallon water bottle but  had an organization problem.  It took him twice a long as it should have.  We buy our drinking water here or at Publix for either 27 cents or 30 cents a gallon.

Some Wal-Mart’s have two machines, this one has one.  We waited a long time.   Our friends Len & Mary had a leak in their water heater and have been working on it for five days which included welding the aluminum water heater tank.  We drove to Lowe’s where I purchased a number of parts for our rig and one 44 cent part for Len.  We needed a part for our batteries which we will install sometime this week, weather permitting.

Just wanted to give you a idea of how thick 2/0 battery cable it.

From there we drove to Camping World to get the replacement roof vent cover that is cracked.  This is what I found for options:

Yup, they are all different.  I choose the “correct” one (what a guy ask a woman parts clerk for help).  I had eight picture of the old vent to help in my choice.  From there to the RV salvage place one part for Len, and of course I had to buy something for us.  A guy in a RV salvage yard is like a kid in a candy store.
From there we went to produce stand A.  They were a little pricey so off to produce stand C (we were at B last week).  At last great produce at good prices.  Finally back home by 2 PM!!
While Miss Peggy was fixing lunch we found out that we left our bags at produce stand C  😦
After lunch I climbed up on the roof only to find out my “choice” was not so good as the vent lid didn’t fit.  While up there it started to rain, and I mean rain.  Len had come over saying he had to go to town for one more part (38 cents).  Since we were going back to Camping World we volunteered to save him a trip.
At Camping World the nice lady helped me out (I did have the old part in my hand at this time) and the perfect part was found.
It was still raining off and on so Miss Peggy fixed a late diner of local sausage and mac & cheese – boy was that good.
The rain stopped about 6:30, but it was too wet for a campfire.

The no campfire worked out okay as I had another tax return to do, so I got that 90% finished – just waiting for more info from the couple.  People simply email me attachments of their information and I can do their taxes no matter where I am.  The internet is pretty neat.

  1. Good to hear from you two. We went down to the Escapees Escapade for a few hours to see Bob Shuey & the gang but got there too late, missed him but got to see many others from the past. Our kids are moving to Beckley, WV will probably go visit them this summer, maybe help them move. Will go baby sit our Granddogs in Albuquerque in a few weeks while they go to FL to get their boating license, guess you could give them a few pointers!! Expecting 16 for a cook out here in a few minutes from our Bible study at the RV park. Love ya, Missy
