We have been ask about the term “Boondocking”, it goes with the term “Dry Camp”.
Both mean to live in your RV at a location that doesn’t have any hookups. No electricity, no water, no sewage dump, etc. These locations are usually remote and almost always free. We like free, so we choose to boondock. You have to plan your water and electricity usage so you don’t run out or have the waste tanks full when you don’t plan it. Our first RV carried 100 gallons of fresh water and we went 14 days at one time without getting water or dumping waste water. We generate electricity, some people use solar power for electricity. Our current rig only holds 60 gallons of water, but we carry a portable water bladder which can hold another 40 gallons.
We planned to leave out of the Lakeport RV park at about 10:00 to arrive at the Walmart in Arcadia at 11:30. We arrived at the Walmart at Noon. After an hour of shopping we arrived at the field at Turner Agri Center in Arcadia a little after 1 PM. After setting up and talking with some of our neighbors we all got together at 4:30 for introductions, and a hot dog meal.
Monday is seminars with plans for a group breakfast on Tuesday and a 4 hour kayak/canoe ride on Thursday. This rally was planned to be loose and go along with any weather that may occur. We will probably have another group breakfast, a couple of potluck meals and of course chili on Valentine’s Day!
Plans are to get in the seminars early in the week, but as they are all held in the field weather is in charge. Then later in the week as we know each other better to enjoy life more. We communicate between the rigs at the Rally via email!
As we are conserving electricity this week we will be in bed early each night.
Send us your questions, we are happy to have them.
